Container Gardens Growing in Popularity
Have you ever thought about having your own garden but don't have a big enough yard, or a yard at all?
Container gardens are growing in popularity and Rose Jackson from Anything With Plants shared some tips with First Coast News on how to make your garden bloom.
When choosing a planter, Jackson suggests finding one with built in irrigation which includes a planter, disk to drain water, an area for soil and a built in
water monitor that makes it easier to tell when your plant needs attention. She said this is very helpful because over-watering is the one number one reason for why plants die in homes.
Although terra cotta planters are aesthetically pleasing, they are more likely to absorb water which freezes to ice or expand and crack in the hot heat of summer. Metal pots can leave stains
on stone patios or wooden decks so the ideal containers come in good-quality plastic or fiberglass.
There are a variety of plants that are perfect for small gardens such as verbena, lavender, and herbs such as sage, thyme and basil. Jackson also shared that there really isn't a wrong
combination or plants or herbs but doing research doesn't hurt. Whatever you choose to add to your home, studies have proven that plants not only help clean the air from pollutants but also
increase your productivity by boosting moral and happiness.
Whether you're looking to add some color to your home or grow goodies to cook with, container gardens have become a trend that offers endless possibilities. For more tips from Jackson, you can
